The objective of the NZPIA is:
- To promote safe skydiving through education, training, certification, and other qualification programs for both individuals and operators.
- Provide advice and support to individuals and operators that affiliate with the organisation.
In New Zealand parachuting is separated by regulation by two distinct streams.
- Private or sporting activity.
- Hire and reward or commercial activity.
The NZPIA allows affiliation by operations in either field with qualifications that match the FAI standards and links with the New Zealand Parachute Federation and the FAI.
At the same time the NZPIA supports and encourages the principles of the 2010 Adventure Review put out from the Tourism Industry Association for all adventure activities in New Zealand for all operations affiliated to the NZPIA.
